Located in the centre of Thurso, the most northerly town in mainland Scotland
The Royal Hotel in Thurso is based in the north coast of Scotland, on the beautiful burgh of Caithness.
Regarded as the gateway to Orkney, it offers miles of white sandy beaches, scraggy headlands and dramatic cliffs, making it an ideal place for a true getaway.
After travelling what seems half of the northern most part of Scotland we were welcomed so warmly by a lovely Receptionist who allowed us free reign to look at 2 rooms - one far outweighed the other and we had a nice comfortable room, good shower and a lovely breakfast
As with most hotel reviews, some people expect more than the price they pay justifies. We were a party of 3 and for all of us this hotel ticked all the important boxes for the price paid. The rooms were clean, with new carpets and clean bedding and towels. Plenty of hot water and toiletries. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the bar food we all agreed were excellent (we each had different meals) and good value, the service surprisingly quick at the busy time we ate. We arrived by train from Saddleworth and the Hotel's location is very convenient, a short stroll from both the station and the bus stop to John O Groats. There is traffic noise to the rooms facing the main road. You would expect this in a town centre location, and this could be reduced with modern windows. We were able to change rooms without a fuss.
